How To Get The Most Distance Out Of Your Golf Driver

Golf is a complex game that takes practice, discipline and precision. If you are new to golf, there are several aspects of the game that should be focused on initially. Putting is one such aspect, and, although golf beginners might be new to an 18 hole course, or even the driving range, they probably have experience putting on miniature golf courses. Hitting golf balls with a driver however, is a completely different story.

A golf swing, for many individuals, is a lifelong project, one that takes intense dedication and focus, but the fruits of this effort will be evident by improved performance on the course. The longer and straighter your drives are, the fewer strokes it will take to reach the pin. It is for this reason that practicing your golf swing to get the most distance out of your driver is a crucial aspect of the game that, along with putting, should be focused on initially.

The Driver Itself

The first thing that you want to concentrate on is the driver itself. It is very important to own a driver that you can trust and feel comfortable using. For beginner golfers, your driver should be chosen solely on comfort. It is a good idea to take a practice swing with a variety of drivers to see which allows you to move with the least resistance. You should choose your driver based upon your comfort level with the club. Whichever club you end up choosing as your driver, it should have a good heft in your hands, and you should feel comfortable when swinging it.

You want to be sure that the driver is not too big as well. Generally, the club should not be taller than your armpits, and you want to be sure that it is not too heavy for you. The club should feel great in your hands, and be sure to focus on your grip and posture. If you want to get the most distance out of your driver, make sure that you are holding the club correctly.

You also want to be sure that the driver is clean and free of nicks. You might not know it, but if your clubs are dirty or damaged, you are most likely not going to get the best swing. Therefore, in order to be sure that you are placing yourself in the best position to improve your drives, inspect your clubs regularly and clean them after each game or practice. Many people also polish their woods
1000
and keep their drivers covered with golf club covers when they are not using them, to make sure that they do not get damaged by any uncontrollable means. If you truly want to get the most distance out of your driver, it is a great idea to take the best care of your clubs as possible.

Your Driving Power

Once you have picked out the most comfortable driver available, and have cleaned and inspected the driver of nicks and damages, you want to be sure that you are using it correctly in order to hit the ball cleanly and powerfully. There are several particular motions involving various parts of your body that you will need to master in order to hit the ball with the right amount of precision, direction, and force.

First, it is very important that your feet are standing shoulder width apart and your toes are pointed outward around ten or so degrees. Second, you will want to concentrate on the way your body and arms move when you are swinging to make sure you are staying completely straight. Any bending that is involved in your golf swing should be from the hips, not as a slouch from your shoulder and chest area. As you place your ball on the tee, keep your grip and posture in mind. Try not to let your body bend in a way that will make the ball curve away from the pin. Concentrate on keeping your shoulders straight and your head down. Finally, in order to get the best distance and swing from your driver, you will want to swing smoothly and be sure that you are connecting squarely on the ball.

Golf is a game that can take many twists and turns. The course you’re playing on, the time of year and the weather all play a part in the success (or lack thereof) of your game. There are certain aspects of your golf game that you do not have control over. The most intrusive of these situations is the wind. If you are dealing with a strong cross wind or a wind that is blowing against you and the way you want the ball to go, you could very well have a tough time hitting the ball towards the intended pin. In these specific situations, it is important to remember that sometimes, even if you do everything correctly, the distance of your drive is going to be out of your hands.

Are you struggling hitting a golf driver off a tee? Are you scared to death each time you step up to the tee with your driver?

This article is just for you, as its reveals 5 tips to help you improve hitting a golf driver off a tee which will result in producing a great drive.

Make sure you set your tee slightly higher out of the ground than when using a long or short iron. If the tee is too low you will end up topping the ball, but then placing the tee too high will cause your ball to pop up and your distance will be impaired.

Ensure you are gripping the golf club correctly, your grip when hitting a driver is the same as when hitting with your iron. Make sure whichever types of grip you use, interlocking, overlapping or baseball ensure the grip is correct. Make sure your strong hand is nearer the bottom of the shaft and weak hand near the top, i.e. for right-handed golfer left hand at top and right hand at bottom.

When addressing the ball with your driver you need to ensure you are standing a little further back than when using an iron. This is due to your swing plane creating a larger arc, standing too close will cause you to feel too rigid and not get correct contact with the ball. Your feet should be about shoulders width apart with the ball resting just inside the heel of the front foot.

Make sure you keep your head still and your eyes looking down at your ball. You may be tempted to watch the flight of the drive and look up to quickly which will likely cause you to top the ball and cause you to have one of the worst starts to a hole. Make sure the club does the hard work this can be done by turning your hips towards the target as contact is made with the ball. With your hips opened up you will complete the proper follow through and obtain great distance.

Always use a driver which you feel comfortable with, this doesn't mean you have to purchase the biggest most expensive driver available, this will only boost your ego not your distance. The golf shot you complete with your driver needs to be controlled, make sure you don't swing too hard.

Hitting a perfect drive off the tee straight and with maximum distance is simple to achieve if you follow these proven steps in this article. Hitting a golf driver off the tee is not something you can only see the pros do, use these steps and very soon you'll be hitting long straight drives with every shot off the tee.

A number of Ping drivers for sale can help any golfer drive the ball farther and more accurately with designs geared towards their individual games.

The Ping G10 driver has a higher MOI head, a deep crown, and a tall but thin clubface that explodes the ball down the fairway. It's a game improvement model with a ton of forgiveness, so it is a great driver for sale for anyone who currently struggles off the tee.

A slight variation on that is the Ping G10 Draw. This model has the hosel positioned farther forward to make it easier to square the face at impact.

The Ping Rapture V2 combines the lightness of titanium and the density of tungsten to create a well-balanced club that's easy to hit. It has two tungsten weight pads in the back of the club, forming a center of gravity in the lower rear of the club. This is the biggest game improvement club in the Ping arsenal, and you won't find a more forgiving driver.

For women golfers, the Ping Rhapsody is a driver for sale that is designed to improve their game. It has a 460cc clubhead and a thin crown that leads to a higher launch and a lower spin. It is available in three lofts and two shafts, and any of the options adds distance and accuracy off the tee.

The Ping G5 is an earlier model, but it's a great value on sale because it's still got a lot of what is currently in demand. It's got an internal weighting system that creates an ideal center of gravity, and produces higher launch conditions with low spins. It's also got a 460cc clubhead, so there's nothing bigger out there.

Phil Mickelson is one of the greatest golfers that are actively playing at the moment. That is why it is common to wonder - what driver does Phil Mickelson use?

The answer is quite simple - he uses two. The first one is Callaway FT-5 and the second one is the Callaway FT-9.

Both drivers are great, and are suitable for anyone including amateur and professional players. Callaway FT-9 driver has just recently hit the market and is causing a considerable stir in the golfing circles. It is a very well made stick that delivers consistently long drives. It is named by the company as the Shot Maker, which is a pretty big name, however FT-9 fits it perfectly.

Callaway FT-5 driver has a carbon fiber body, and has 50 grams of weights that the player can distribute the way that they want to adjust the trajectory of the flight.

If these drivers fit Phil Mickelson, they should be good enough for you!

How to Hit a Good Driving Shot in Golf

We all have heard the phrase "drive for show and putt for dough". This shows how important driving is to your game of golf. If you don't drive for show and put the ball right down the middle in the fairway you can forget about putting for dough.

It goes without saying that knowing how to drive a long, straight shot off the tee will enhance your golf game. This in turn allows you to hit a better shot at the hole.

The reason why many high handicap golfers can’t actually use a driver is the fact that they use too little loft. This results in their inability to get the ball in the air and they put too much side spin on it. If you are one of them, go for a club with more loft like three wood or use a 12 degree driver which would not only give the ball more "carry", but also less side spin and you would hit better shots.

Many weaker and older people who can’t produce fast club head speed need to go for more loft. This is why the more lofted clubs can actually help them out.

The following are some other tips to that would help you in driving more consistently:

1) Choose a specific target like the flag to aim at in the distance. However the target could be something else when the sign of the flag is not obvious.

2) Address the ball with it positioned just to the inside of the heel of your front foot. As you use higher-lofted club heads, gradually move the ball position toward the middle of your stance but the ball should never be in the middle of your stance. If you are in a driving range, make sure you are aiming correctly by laying out your stance outline on the ground and aiming directly at a target mark.

3) Take a stance just a bit wider than shoulder width to provide a solid and stable base. As you begin your swing, take the club back at the exact pace as when you coil and rotate your hips. This means that your shoulders and arms should remain on the same plane and should work as one turning unit.

4) The club face should be closed when it hits the ball. Use a longer length driver and or jumbo head if it is comfortable and efficient for you. You have to strike the ball in the center of the wood driver.

5) Guide the wood driver with your non-dominant hand for a clean, powerful swing. Allow your dominant hand provide the support.

6) It is better to concentrate on hitting the ball straight even if you have to scarify a few yards.

7) There is nothing more exciting than hitting a long straight drive right down the middle of the fairway between the trees. Always visualize this before you hit each drive.

Proper Golf Swing: Golf Instructions and Tips

Proper Golf Swing is perhaps the most crucial skill to master in order to achieve the high success rate in the game of golf. It is one of the very basics of this royal game. Here are some tips and golf instructions for you…

Ask any golfer on the green for some golf tips and they will tell you, "everything matters." The course matters. The air matters. The grass matters. The clubs, shoes, humidity, noise and tee time all matter. But the thing that matters most is the swing. Golf begins and ends with the proper golf swing.

Golf swing instructions are essential to learning not only the basics of the sport but to achieving any kind of success on the course. If you go into any pro shop, whether they offer free golf tips or paid professional golf instructions, you are going to learn about the swing. A proper golf swing involves the entire body working towards a unified purpose.

Head and shoulders

"Keep your eye on the ball," is one of the most famous free golf tips you will ever hear. However many professionals providing golf swing instructions advise the golfer to fix their eyes at a point near the ball that aligns directly with where they want the ball to go. To provide maximum energy to the arms your head should stay still and move only during the natural follow-through of your swing.

Observing the physics of a golf swing would indicate the power for forward motion comes from the shoulders. However the power in a proper golf swing comes from the abdomen and is transferred through the shoulders to drive the ball forward. Golf tips often stress the shoulders should keep the chest in an open posture and roll through the swing not bend or jerk. Restrictions or stiffness in the shoulders can cause the golfer to pull up on the swing and reduce the distance traveled by the ball.

The grip

A functional and comfortable grip is required for the perfect golf swing. New golfers often find the correct grip to feel awkward however golf swing instructions never waver on the point. Depending on your dominant hand the club should rest against the palm of your opposite hand and be held somewhat loosely at the fingertips with the heel of your hand providing pressure. The dominant hand should then be placed in the same position creating a V with the thumb and index fingers.

In a proper golf swing the dominant index finger is the one that guides the club directionally through the swing. The physics of the swing works in such a way that the V created by the grip should point between your right shoulder and your chin. This helps align the head and neck and focus the power of the swing. A common theme in golf instructions is that the grip should never be tight but strong enough to adequately hold the club.

Posture

Essential to maintaining linear energy in a proper golf swing is correct posture. The golfer should ensure that they are bending at the waist and not the back or the shoulders. A golf swing driven from the back or shoulders is one of the main reasons for injury when playing golf. Golf instructions advise participants to bend foreword from the hip socket until the arms can swing freely through the chest area.

Another mistake new golfers make in attempting a perfect golf swing is to stiffen their legs as they approach the ball. The legs should be held loosely and the golfer should flex at the knee slightly to aid in the physics of the swing. The knee should never cross the tips of the foot but be flexible enough to allow smooth body movement. On the follow-through of the swing the knee should be able to pivot to allow the body to stay aligned.

Pace

Golf instructors frequently remind golfers than a faster swing does not equal a farther drive. There is a pace to golf that relies more on a slow and steady tempo than a fast, jerky motion. One of the most common golf tips you will hear is to not jerk your swing.

The way to set your tempo for a proper golf swing is to start with the backswing. A slower backswing with a fluid even motion will result in concentrated force as it comes forward to meet the ball. After your body is aligned correctly in front of the ball, bringing the club back at a slow enough pace that you can see the club head leaving the surface area. As you are raising the club through the backswing, concentrate the physical power from your abdomen through your aligned body to the shoulders which then roll forward extending the power through the club to the ball.

The follow-through should maintain the same even tempo as the energy is released driving the ball forward. At that point the shoulders roll through the body and the head can rise to allow the neck and arms to release the momentum.

By mastering the basic elements of a proper golf swing a new golfer will soon find themselves enjoying their sport and achieving success on the green.

Golf Swing: 3 Ways to Develop more Power

How can you improve the power of your golf swing? This is a question that all of us want an answer to. Most golfers go to great lengths to get that extra yard off the tee. But how many people actually know that golf swing power is the result of these three specific factors?

 * To improve golf swing power, the first and probably most evident of the three factors is ‘swing mechanics’. Everybody is aware of how important the mechanics of a swing are when it comes to driving the ball. If you are over the top with your swing or come inside too much, you’ll see that dreaded slice or snap hook. Your drives will be inevitably be too short, too low, too high, left, right, or a combination of these if you are putting bad swings on the ball.

To improve your game, it is essential for a golfer to work on the mechanics of the swing at every possible opportunity. The golf swing is a highly complex, mechanically movement, that requires constant work to keep it highly efficient and in check. Professionals realise the importance and have swing coaches that work with them on a consistent basis.

Amateurs throughout the world pack driving ranges, week in and week out, pounding balls without any improvement. This, I feel, is a result of one of two things: a lack of instruction, or low levels of golf strength. A lack of instruction leads to the development and ingraining of improper swing mechanics. This only results in slices, hooks, topping the ball, and hitting it fat on the course. And we all know that those types of swings lead to frustration and bad rounds of golf. I would suggest to almost anyone: find a good instructor and take lessons on a consistent basis. This can only help your game in the long run. But if private lessons sound too expensive for ‘just a past-time’ then consider video tutorials and books in the very least. Swing mechanics are a fundamental in improving your power.

* The second of the three factors is what we term golf strength. It is probably the least recognized of the three, but for many is the ‘key’ to longer drives; yet the category is given the least amount of attention, especially by amateurs. Golf strength is defined as how well your body is conditioned to swing a golf club with maximum power (ie. it is a measure of fitness). Although probably the least understood of the three, golf strength maybe the most needed by golfers in general.

Strength, in terms of golf, is not about how much you can bench press or how much your biceps bulge! Golf strength and weight room strength, are very different. If you do not quite understand the difference, ask yourself one question: How many bodybuilders do you see on Tour?!!

It comes down to this idea: the mechanics of a golf swing require specific levels of flexibility, balance, stability, strength, endurance, and power to perform it efficiently. If your body does not have these required capacities, then the result will be obvious – a less than optimal swing.

Essentially, your body supports your swing. I am sure that all of us would choose to build a house on a stone foundation rather than a sand foundation, wouldn’t we? Yet I will say that many amateurs make a different choice when it comes to their golf swing.

Regardless of how much time you work on your swing mechanics, if your body does not have the ‘golf strength’ to support the swing, you are limiting your potential. I have seen it numerous times, people practicing at the range who struggle, not because of trying to get better, but because their bodies are limiting what they can do with their swing. Quite often I see people with limited flexibility, poor balance capabilities, and low levels of strength and power. The bottom line is that your mechanics will not get better until you fix the body that swings the club!

Up to this point we have discussed the two most important ideas when it comes to power on the golf course. A review of the topics tells us that they are optimal swing mechanics and the proper levels of ‘golf strength’. One without the other is going to leave you short when it comes to potential in your game.

* The third most important factor to improve the power of your golf swing is: equipment. Yes, equipment. It does make a real difference to how far you drive the ball. The equipment manufacturers have let this fact be known to everyone, and I bet we all have gone to the pro shop probably more than twice to pick up a new driver that claims to give us that elusive 20 yards. It should be remembered however that, that extra distance might not be down the middle of the fairway; it will give you an extra 20 yards alright… but it could be left, could be right, or it could be down the centre of the fairway. That all depends on points one and two of this article. Equipment and technological advances have definitely lengthened the distance of our drives. But without better swing mechanics and your body in better golf shape, new technology will not help your game. A bad swing will produce a bad result, regardless of what type of ‘new’ driver you may have just purchased.

I think the majority of golfers are aware of the advances that have occurred in golf equipment over the last 20 years. I mean, in the glorious ‘80’s when we were still playing with woods that actually had wooden club heads! Imagine that for a moment, and now we are using drivers with space age faces that shoot the ball off of them at warp speed. In addition, we have to mention the advances in terms of golf balls. How manufacturers design golf balls today makes a difference in how far they travel. What a lot of people do not realize is that the USGA has set standards on how ‘hot’ driver faces can be and how ‘fast’ balls can come off the face of drivers. Most clubs are reaching this limit, and anything past these USGA rules becomes illegal to play (in the professional game only of course!).

There’s no doubt that custom made golf clubs can make a significant improvement to your swing power. But before you go off and spend a fortune, remember the saying: ‘a bad workman always blames his tools’. In other words, first improve the fundamentals of your swing mechanics and golfing fitness before you make any purchase.

So in summary, what does power really come down to?

It comes down to three simple ideas. Number one is improving your golf swing mechanics. Improved mechanics will improve your driving distance. Number two is improving your golf strength. By improving your body as it pertains to the golf swing you will improve your distance off the tee. Finally, equipment does make a difference, but only if you hit the ball correctly.

Best of luck with your game.

The tee box can be a scary place for a beginner and a high handicapper. There are two dangers to worry about; embarrassing drives that don’t travel more than a few yards before skittering to a stop, or drives that travel far off course into the out of bounds areas or rival fairways.

So what are the best drivers for high handicappers and beginners?

Golf club manufacturers are smart, however, and they have a host of innovations to make even the most inexperienced golfer a strong performer off the tee. Anything labeled as a Game Improvement Driver is one designed for those who are looking for clubs to take strokes off their game and need a lot of help from the club to help overcome inexperience or swing flaws. They do so by using design elements that make mistakes less costly.

One big thing to look for is an oversized head with a high Moment of Inertia (MOI). The oversize heads produce a large hitting surface, while the high MOI makes the clubs extra forgiving, and both characteristics make for perfect drivers for beginners. That means that hitting the ball off-center isn’t a disaster – it’s still going to get some distance, and still be on or near the fairway. The clubheads may be shaped differently, or may have extra features like movable external weights or a bias in favor of draws or fades, but the basic principle here is to find a driver with the 460cc clubhead that’s the biggest allowed by the golf authorities and has the technology to create an expanded hitting surface that keeps the ball flying far and straight.

Choosing the Best Golf Driver to Improve Your Golf Game

Learn how to buy the perfect golf driver to improve your golf game. Whether you are a weekend hacker, a total golf newbie or a golf pro this article will really help you find the best golf driver for your golf game.

Picking a golf driver is an incredibly important part of your overall golf game. If you don’t have a driver that is right for you than your game and ultimately your enjoyment level will suffer. Hitting the golf ball far and straight off the tee is important and really will make your scores drop as you have easier approach shots.

The first step in choosing your dream golf driver is to find a driver with the right clubhead design. In the case of golf driver head size, the larger sizes will result in larger sweet spots and limit the miss-hits that can really ruin your game. The larger sweet spot can result in a lot more consistency for the beginner to intermediate player. Also, if you have trouble maintaining a consistent swing then you’ll want to go with a larger clubhead. Also, keep in mind that the maximum allowable club head volume size per the USGA is 460cc. If you are an intermediate to expert level player with a consistent swing then you may want to opt for a driver with a smaller head, maybe in the 380-410cc range. At this size it is easier to control the smaller driver and work the ball more to the spots in the fairway that you want to strategically hit.

If you are in search of options that will help you to correct a slice or hook then you may want to consider a golf driver with internal or external weighting. There are drivers on the market that allow you to adjust weight screws in order to favor a draw or fade. There are also unique head shapes and weighting set-ups that will allow you to increase or decrease the height of your ball flight.

In order to get the most distance and accuracy out of your golf drives you should definitely choose a driver with the correct shaft flex to fit your swing. Players with slow swing speeds should opt for a driver with a more flexible shaft to maximize the drive distance. On the other hand, players with fast swing speeds should select a stiff shaft driver to help then maintain accuracy. In order to get the most power out of your swing you should go with a flexible shaft provided you are able to control it. The flex will add torque/power to your drives but also be aware that the increased flex coupled with a hard swing can lead to shots that veer off course.

Finally, you’ll want to select a golf driver with a loft angle appropriate to your swing. The higher the loft on the driver the higher the launch angle for the ball and that will lead to more distance for your drives. If you have difficulty getting the ball high in the air and have a slow swing speed then definitely opt for a driver with a higher loft such as 10° or above. On the other hand, if you have a very fast swing and can get a naturally high ball flight then go for a driver in the 9° range. If you really don’t know your swing or what to select then go with the higher lofted driver to ensure you give yourself the best chance to get a high launch angle and longer distance.

Driving Iron Golf Clubs: Are They Outdated?

With the rise in popularity of other clubs in recent years, some people feel that the driving iron golf clubs are a thing of the past. I am not so sure, so let's take a look at the ideas.

First, what is a driving iron, and how does it work?

Well, a driving iron is a club which is basically derived from the 1 iron, but it is designed to be used off the tee.

The reason for the use of this club is that a lot of players get intimidated when they hold the longer shaft of a driver at the tee, and also feel they need to hit the ball harder to get distance. That is a basic golfing error. An attempt to hit harder will only produce less control and consistency in the swing, which coupled with the extra length of the driver's shaft, results in ineffective drives.

As a result of this, some people would use their 1 iron instead of a driver, feeling they had better control of the swing with the shorter club shaft. However, a 1 iron is not ideally designed to drive off from the tee, so the driving iron comes into play instead.

The difference between the driving iron and the 1 iron is that the head of the driving iron is thicker and more solid. This gives extra power to the club head as it strikes the ball, while maintaining the feel of the 1 iron.

The reason that this club has begun to be less popular in recent years is due to the evolution of the hybrid club. A hybrid club is effectively a combination of two clubs, but it does not have the one noticeable disadvantage of the driving iron. Because the driving iron has such a flat face, it produces little backspin or loft, so if you want to get a high trajectory off the tee, the driving iron has its limitations.

This why, with only limited space in the bag, the hybrid club has come into favor, as it offers a greater variety of shot potential. Many players have replaced the driving iron with a hybrid club.

However, in some situations the extra weight of the driving iron can give it advantages over a hybrid club. Where you want a long, low shot, you may find that a driving iron gives you more distance. Try for yourself to see if it brings benefits to the drive off any of the tees at your favorite course.

Although they may have waned in popularity, driving irons still have a place in the game of many players. If you have space in your golf bag, it can be worth adding a driving iron golf club for certain shots.
