Callaway HyperX Review
Callaway HyperX Driver is the club that the company used to introduce its hyperbolic face technology. The all-titanium club is both light and powerful, the prototypical Callaway driver that looks, fields, and plays like one of the leaders on the market.
The HyperX has a 460cc head, but the shape has been optimized from earlier models to create a larger and more forgiving hitting surface. That’s noticeable in the ball speed off the tee, which is high even on balls that are hit off-center. It doesn’t take a perfect stroke to send the ball soaring down the fairway with the Callaway HyperX.
The engineers also removed weight from the hosel and positioned it in the perimeter of the clubhead, which has a positive effect on the club’s center of gravity and MOI. That shift in weight distribution has the effect of generating hard-hit drives without forcing the golfer to swing harder.
In addition, a little touch that will help many golfers is the X-Sole design. It’s hardly noticeable when the head cover comes off, but it helps golfers align correctly and square to the ball, keeping them aiming at the target line and helping to prevent mis-hits. The standard model has a face closed slightly by one degree, while the Hyper X Tour version is open by 0.5 degrees which increases the shotmaking capabilities for top players.
