Taylor Made R9 460 Driver Review

The Taylor Made R9 460 is one of several of the company’s drivers that offers golfers the ability to customize their club at a moment’s notice without sacrificing the stability, forgiveness, and distance that Taylor Made is known for.

This club takes the Taylor Made R9, the most-used driver on the PGA Tour, and combines it with a 460cc titanium clubhead and a longer, lighter shaft. It has a larger head, a deeper clubface, and a center of gravity located in the lower-back portion of the club. That increases both swing speed and forgiveness, two of the most critical variables for most golfers, and the MOI for this club is higher. Players who have issues with lower ball spin should find that this club alleviates the problem, leading to increased carry and distance.

Like the standard R9 model, the Taylor Made R9 460 offers the company’s Flight Control Technology. The club’s face angle, loft, and lie angle can be changed by loosening a bolt in the club’s sole, shifting the shaft, and tightening it again. It’s quick and user-friendly enough to alter on the go, so a golfer who begins the round by slicing the first couple of drives can make a fix while still on the course.

It’s also one of the newer clubs on the market, as it just hit the shelves in May 2009.
