Titleist 905R Driver Reviews

The Titleist 905R was the company's first driver with a 460cc head, and PGA Tour players like Adam Scott were quick to make the switch from the company's other smaller models. As one might expect from a company that embraces tradition, there’s a lot of old-school thinking regarding looks and performance that were built into this modern club.

It's an all-titanium stick that is similar to the Titlelist 905T, only bigger. The club reflects the traditional Titleist look, with a pear-shaped clubhead that looks much like a traditional driver head (though obviously with newer and better technology than the pros used in the 1960s). Its design encourages a high launch angle and lower ball spin, and the clubface increases the ball velocity to gain extra distance. The clubface and rounded sole keep the club square at address, as does a little extra weighting at the club heel. That, in addition to a clubface that is more forgiving than earlier Titleist models and features a high MOI, helps keep mis-hits to a minimum and leads to a slight draw bias.

The Titleist 905R is available in 7.5, 8.5. 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degree lofts. Though it first hit the market in 2006, it’s still good enough that Soren Hansen and Jay Haas use it on tour today.
